An emerging name in the field of fitness and health, Katie Austin, is passionate about passing on the torch of health and fitness that she has inherited from her mother, who is a renowned fitness trainer. She is a fitness personality, recipe developer, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model and has also created the Katie Austin App. Moreover, she has recently collaborated with Amazon Devices to demonstrate how she uses Alexa to streamline her morning routine and boost her workout sessions.
Katie Austin’s dedication to fitness and health is not surprising given her family background and personal interests. Her mother, Denise Austin, has had a significant presence in the health and fitness domain. She was also a professional lacrosse player at the Division I level at the University of Southern California before transitioning to a full-time career in sports hosting. Alongside, she found fulfillment in her fitness-oriented side jobs including teaching fitness classes and managing a health and wellness blog. It appears that assisting in adopting a healthier lifestyle through fitness and proper diet was Katie’s destiny.
Further, Amazon Devices and Katie Austin have jointly come up with an interesting collaboration. She employs Alexa devices every day, making the partnership a genuinely organic fit. Alexa, specifically Echo Spot, aids in keeping track of her morning routine, all while ensuring she’s epitomizing an active lifestyle by meeting daily movement and workout targets. She frequently sets timers between her sets during workout and employs Alexa to play different genres of music according to the nature and pace of her workout.
Morning routines play a crucial role in achieving goals, and Katie credits Echo Spot for her well-coordinated, organized routine. She recommended invoking joy in the morning to start the day positively and strongly. For instance, she established Alexa Routines to initiate her day smoothly. This included automating the lights, briefing her of the day’s schedule and starting a morning playlist. Further, she mentioned that simple joys such as having a coffee from her favorite mug set a good pace for the day.
For those planning to adapt a new fitness routine, Katie suggests starting slowly. Rather than aiming for a workout session every day, gradually incorporate workouts in your routine. To ensure this, one should treat fitness just like any other priority in life and schedule it. A hold for workout time, be it just 15 minutes or 45, should be scheduled on your daily calendar. This habit developed over time will become as second nature as muscle memory.
Maintaining a fitness routine in a chaotic life might be daunting. However, according to Katie, even amidst busy schedules, workouts can be managed. A few consistent daily acts such as waking up, feeding her dog, a glass of water in the morning, scheduling the day and stretching help her starts the day better. Digital plans can also be converted into active activities. Meeting friends can be coupled with a coffee walk, playing a sport like pickleball or tennis or streaming a workout video together.
Inculcating learnings from her mother, one of the most valuable lessons Katie learned from her mom is – walking is more critical than one might think. She even mentioned her mom always emphasized, “sitting is the new smoking,” especially in the digital era where screen time has dramatically increased. However, it doesn’t mean one needs to devote substantial time to walking. Taking a longer route home, opting for stairs over the elevator or even a brisk 15-20 minute walk can make a significant difference.
Currently, she has been exploring strength training and Pilates. She confirmed the recent launch of her ’21 Day Strengthen & Lengthen Program’ through the Katie Austin App on September 16, significantly focusing on these two forms of exercise.
