Brewers Manager Pat Murphy gives special tour to Appleton family on medical journey

In Milwaukee, amidst the rampant sports banners reading “Undaunted” peppering the city landscape, a story of genuine fortitude and resilience unraveled. A 15-year-old young man from Appleton, named Brett Jedwabny, continues to fight for recovery from a severe brain injury he sustained from a pressure washer incident. Brett’s story has elicited a massive cry of solidarity and support from everywhere and has even encouraged the Brewers’ manager, Pat Murphy, to take up the role of an unexpected tour guide.

Brett’s story is a testament to resilience. Back in July, Brett suffered a traumatic brain injury due to a freak accident involving a pressure washer. Since then, the young lad and his family have been staying in a Milwaukee hospital for over two months. The family’s eldest son’s remarkable bravery amid his slow but steady recovery journey and their undaunted faith in these trying times are making headlines. However, this road has not been without its fair share of bureaucratic hurdles. Brett’s family’s request to transfer him to a more specialized facility in Chicago was turned down thrice by the insurance company.

Persistence pays off, and interestingly, just when the family was losing hope, they learned that they had finally been granted approval for their request to transfer Brett to a more specialized facility. This news brought a glimmer of hope and further strengthened their resolve. The word “undaunted” had evolved into something much larger than just a word for the family; it was their mantra for survival and optimism.

Adding charm and an unforgettable experience to their journey was Brewers’ Manager Pat Murphy. He surprised the family with a one-of-a-kind tour. Brett’s siblings, Tyler and Grant, were taken on this special journey. They got to hold their favorite players’ bats, sit in the Brewers dugout, and even got a chance to interact with Murphy in his office, who enthusiastically answered their every query. As a token of inspiration, Murphy also gifted the boys two shirts from his personal collection, both of them carrying the powerful message: “Undaunted”. This deeply touched the family, and the word ‘Undaunted’ gained even more significance to them.

As of now, Brett is all set for a second surgery slated for October 30th. To support and rally around Brett, the family has organized a fundraiser event titled “Bags for Brett” on the forthcoming Saturday. This event, a cornhole tournament, is scheduled to begin at noon and will be hosted at Prime Time Bar and Grill in Menasha.

While the young Brett battles his way through recovery, the word “Undaunted,” underlining the Brewers banners throughout Milwaukee, has found a deeper resonance with this family. It is not merely an emblem of a sports team’s spirit, but it reflects the unwavering faith and courage of a 15-year-old’s fight against a calamity, instilling hope and resilience within the hearts of the members of the community. Brett’s journey, with its ups and downs, is a testament to the human spirit’s endurance and serves as a beacon of inspiration to many.
