One pivotal role in Action Against Hunger’s operation is the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Officer position. This position primarily will be embedded within the MEAL team and be responsible for implementing the organization’s comprehensive MEAL system. This person will assist the team in various areas, including data collection, database management, and analysis, and on top of that the management of all project APRs and implementation of post-distribution monitoring across all programs in Somalia. The position also bears the flexibility of collaborating closely with a team that oversees a range of programs and of interacting effectively with a variety of community members.
The MEAL Officer’s responsibility is to support the complete development of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) systems, implement and measure metrics for Action Against Hunger Somalia projects to gauge their impact, and provide quality support in terms of project design, implementation, and reporting.
Alongside these, the MEAL Officer will have other key engagements. These include collaboration with other MEAL team members in developing feasible weekly, monthly, and quarterly work plans, creating and standardizing both quantitative and qualitative monitoring tools associated with each development sector. Delivery-wise, the MEAL Officer will play a significant role in facilitating accurate and timely reporting to internal and external stakeholders through data collection and analysis for evaluations and routine/post-distribution monitoring activities.
Applying for the MEAL Officer position follows specific candidature prerequisites. The primary requirements being a bachelor’s or master’s degree in areas such as statistics, demographics, public policy, international development, economics or related fields. Work experience is of the essence, with a minimum of four years of professional practice in an M&E position designed to implement M&E activities in international development projects. Also, fluency in English and Somali languages is an obligatory requirement for this role.
